Every year Madison hosts a Science Expo, headed up by 5th-grade teacher Mrs. Martin, and Aimee Pecan, former Madison parent. Guided by the belief that science should not have limits, the Science Expo is open to all students, kindergarten through fifth grade. Students fill out grant requests for any science project they can imagine. These projects are then funded 100%, thanks to donations from grants, private donors, and fundraising. Free work nights are held for students to safely experiment or build their projects. Student scientists range in age from 5 to 11 years old. The culmination of these efforts is the Science Expo itself, an opportunity for the broader community to see how much the students have learned and how hard they have worked. This is one of Madison’s most important events of the year and instills a passion for science, and shows that science is not limited by gender, nationality, or socioeconomic status.
